Twelve years have passed since the fall of Lord Voldemort; the world is in turmoil. After four years of cleaning up after the war and creating stability in the Wizarding world, a new campaign was started: The Reveal. Many that fought against Voldemort in the war believed that the best way to create peace for Wizards and Muggles alike, Wizards would have to come out of the broom closet and maintain open and amicable relations with them. The Ministry, warry of continuing to ignore public opinion, and the Minister being on the side of the Unity campaign, supported the efforts to unite the two worlds. Without a strong opposition in the beginning stages of the plan, they were successful in convincing the majority of the public to side with Unity. The Divide, as the opposition came to be known had little chance to campaign to keep the Wizarding world a secret, coming into real power over a year after Unity began talks with the Ministry of Magic.
Just six years after The Second Wizarding War, the announcement was made to the existence of Magic and Wizards via public television and radio broadcasts across the world. Most governments had already been contacted and made aware of the campaign over the last year to establish ground plans for unifying the Muggle and Wizarding populations. The expected amount of uproar ensued from the Muggle populous but was mostly calmed with the help of Wizarding propaganda and the opening of many Wizarding attractions, like Diagon Alley- Now mostly a tourist attraction. After two years, most had accepted the Wizards within their midst, though a small faction of muggle extremists continue to commit acts of terrorism against Wizards.
In the last three years, many collaborative projects involving technology and magic, making technology more usable for Wizards. Many advancements have been made, and it is no longer impossible for electronics to operate in close proximity to magic. Most electronics now contain magical components, so it is not uncommon for Wizards to have things like cell phones, computers, and televisions. The benefits of Unity are not limited to Wizards, however. Most Muggles have taken up the use of the Floo Network, magical objects that do not require magic to use, potions, etc. as many Wizarding locations like Diagon Alley and The Leaky Cauldron have been opened up to Muggles.
The Ministry of Magic remains officially on the side of Unity, though many within its ranks are aligned with The Divide. The Ministry is the official liaison between the Muggles and Wizards, though the heads of The Divide and Unity parties are very public figures. The Divide is slowly gaining more support as more and more lethal accidents occur due to Muggle weaponry and mechanical objects. The Divide is publicly for the safety of Muggles as well, as many spells have gone awry and resulted in many Muggle casualties.
The year is 2009. Welcome to Divided Ever After.
